Polka Dot

This past Friday was our monthly paint day, and I am always trying to come up with something fun and different so I decided on cups.  I painted it, and then I had the students to design their own backgrounds, cups, etc. It was a fun day.  The polka dots are very tedious but fun anyway.
I have it listed on Daily Paintworks and they chose it to be the FB pick of the day. That was fun!
It is for sale there too.

This is their work, along with mine. I didn't get one photo, she left before I got them done.
I know they will all be really cute when they are finished.  The middle one with the 3 colors of cups, is a new student.  This is her 2nd lesson! She did an amazing job!

First Class in the new Studio-Suzy Pal Powell

Friday we had our first class in the new building. Half of the students were either sick or gone, so our class was small but we had a lot of fun.
We painted a small still life of a quilt I made years ago. The pattern is the 'Fan' Quilt.   I love to paint fabric designs, etc. I finished just part of mine and cropped it down.  I now give away my demos, (we draw names) and Carol won this one!
I hope she enjoys it!

Do the Hokey Pokey by Suzy Pal Powell

'Do the Hokey Pokey'
22x28

I am so thankful that our children can run and play without worry...thanks to our Military men and women, over the years,   Fighting and preserving freedom for us. Let us always remember what has been given to allow us to be free. I am thankful that so many of my family members served, giving years of their lives to help make that happen.   A special thanks also to the families of these special people.   My Dad, Brother, Husband, Nephew, Uncles, cousins and friends served, as well as many in Ken's family. Let us remember on this Memorial Day as we stop to pay tribute to them.

This painting was done after a visit to NY in 2002.  The kids were romping and playing in Battery Park after the horrible attack the year before.   This is done in Yupo paper using watercolor and  several different tools and stamps to move it around and give it texture.  In real life you couldn't see the buildings. Just trees.
This painting won 3rd place in the Wyoming Watercolor Society, judged by Robert O'Brien.

Get Your Spring Fix by Suzy Pal Powell

I started this last Friday at the Lubbock Arts Festival, and worked on it all day Friday, Saturday and half a day Sunday.  It took me all morning to finish it up. I haven't done the sides or the varnish yet. I take the photo before varnishing. We are so ready for Spring flowers, and warm weather, I thought this was a good name! It is 18x24 and is available.

Fashion Statement by Suzy Pal Powell

I painted this a couple of years ago, but is still one of my favorites.  It is 20x24 framed, and is available.  I started out by drawing the floral design then painting it.  Then I arranged the flamingos over it trying to get the flowers where I wanted them, then painted the flamingos and background being careful not to glaze all the floral colors back.

Demo in Portales, NM by Suzy Pal Powell

We lucked out last night and had half way decent weather to drive to Portales.  It is 100 miles.  We saw a fire on the way, just inside NM. I didn't get a very good photo, but you can see what could burn! Most of the ranchers have sold their cattle, it is so dry here..heading into a 4 year drought.

The demo went ok I guess. There is no way you can do a collage in 30-45 mins. but you can explain how you work, etc.  This demo was taking failed watercolors and collaging them.  The music scene on the bottom corner was one of those. as well as the white flower I worked on. The music is below. It was just so blah and there didn't seem to be much I could do with it.  I think the collaged one worked out much better. Has more excitement.  I left some of the watercolor showing.  The bottom right is all watercolor, and some of the piano keys are left.

The Purple top left corner was collage/watercolor and one of the ladies bought it for her Granddaughter.  We had a fun night. Great Mexican food with a good friend then an hour of art!

Happy Valentine's Day by Suzy Pal Powell

8x10 oil on canvas
Palette Knife
I wasn't sure I would have a Valentine's Day Post, but I did! I got some tulips yesterday, and worked, or tried to...from the flowers, not a photo.  Every time I looked a the flowers they were opened more, and changing. the small one on the right, just came out looking like a top view, so I made it that way!
Thank you for reading my blog, and some of you comment each time. Thank you. It is fun to get feed back.  This is palette knife painting #4.  I sure enjoy the clean up so much more! BUT. How long does it take to dry, I wonder!

Sunday Shoes by Suzy Pal Powell

Another small painting, 5x7 palette knife painting of Keri's little shoes. These are even smaller than the flip flop! I am such a 'saver' and some times I am glad that I am. These were such a joy to get out and paint. Shoes are still her favorite thing...along with purses! I do have 'both' of these! I don't know why I am missing some mates to the others.

VW Bus by Suzy Pal Powell

I spent a few days tweaking and changing up on the VW.  I didn't like some of the background, so I changed that, changed the color of one bike, and finished them.  It is 18x24 like the Woodie, and the Red Truck. I took some photos as it progressed with my phone because I forgot my camera, and they didn't turn out very good, so I am just posting the finished photo.
Just a reminder of my torn paper collage workshop coming up March 28-29th. If interested email me.

Woodie by Suzy Pal Powell

I was ask to do an old Woodie with the torn paper collage.  I researched it, and was surprised at the history about them! It is really interesting, that they turned into cars for surfers! You should look it up and read about them. It is spelled Woodie and Woody, but Woodie was the first spelling. I can't believe some of these old relics were really made with wood.  I always thought it was just decoration.

I plan on having a torn paper collage workshop March 28-29 in Plains. If interested please let me know as soon as possible, as I need to make plans for a building.

Day 23 of 30 paintings in 30 days by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

While in Wyomimg we found this little lake outside Jackson Hole, and there were so many ducks upside down treading water! So cute. Splashing like crazy. I had never seen ducks doing this before.
That's what happens when you live in West Texas! I was told they were eating, but I don't know how they could eat upside down!

Anybody that knows me knows I love bikes! I love to ride, but haven't in a very long time...since I don't have one. Plus there is no place to ride around the farm. I take photos of them everywhere we go! I have done some in watercolor as well as bike collages.

Day 20-Lunch by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

Lunch
6x6 Oil on gessobord
$100+$8 shipping

Another Buffalo Close up.  Three are probably enough, but who knows? I may find another photo that I like! It has become another challenge to keep finding stuff. Thank goodness these are small.

I am getting a little faster.  I am also working on a big collage, that is nearly finished too.
