SOLD ~ Purple Dancers Iris and a Dallas Arboretum Workshop by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Purple Dancers Iris
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
8X10
Oil on Archival Panel

Purple Dancers is a new small work in the studio, as I pack up paints, flowers, and donuts for my class at the Dallas Arboretum tomorrow morning. I'm hoping for clear skies and low breezes, because it is peek tulip blooming time there and my camera battery is all warmed up! Stay tuned over the next few days for photos of the workshop and my students, and images from the annual Dallas Blooms Festival in the gardens!

SOLD ~ Purple Iris and Goodbye Corporate America by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Purple Iris and White Hydrangeas
by Nancy Medina

SOLD

16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

I brought a few of my water drenched purple iris in from the chill this evening and put them under the spotlight. It took about 30 minutes for them to give up the iris ghost, but their beautiful purples hung in there just long enough for me to mix a shade of fuschia I could live with. I'm washing the brushes, putting my paints away, and mentally preparing for tomorrow, the last day of my life in corporate America. Two weeks ago, I gave my notice for my six-figure day job as a magazine director. Tomorrow I will turn in my office key, carry my cardboard box of plaques and pictures out of the office, and fulfill my dream of becoming a full time artist and art teacher. Thanks to everyone who has sent words of encouragement and courage and their own stories of making the same decision - and thriving! I am needing courage right now! I'm hopeful that my art will continue to grow, and excited about what comes next in this next chapter. One thing is certain, there is no turning back. It's time to follow some bliss!

SOLD ~ Purple Thunder Iris and a Sunflower Painting Video by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Purple Thunder Iris
by Nancy Medina

SOLD
8X10
Oil on Archival Panel

Purple Thunder Iris is a new small work in the studio, as the storms roll through North Texas. About six more deep purple irises joined the rest of their newly blossomed friends in my yard this weekend and I simply had to paint them. I had some good news today - I was delighted that one of my sunflower painting, Sunflower Daisy Divas, was a Daily Paintworks pick! Here is the video I made while painting the sunflower, enjoy!

Sweet Embrace Purple Iris by Texas Flower Artist Nancy Medina

Sweet Embrace Purple Iris
by Nancy Medina
8X10
Oil on Archival Panel

Sweet Embrace is a new purple iris drying on the easel in Flower Mound Studio today, and the car is full to the brim with supplies for my Valentine's weekend flower painting workshop starting bright and early tomorrow morning. I went to Central Market *sound of harps* yesterday to pick up red cannas, white hydrangeas, yellow daisies, purple larkspur and white roses. Yes I went in to buy just a few flowers. Yes I bought more than a few flowers. Sigh. There has to be a medication for this condition, uncontrollable flower infatuation-itis! I really should not be allowed to shop in this store without adult supervision and a tiny little padlock on my debit card.

It's been a super busy week for workshop planning, with a new workshop set for Tennessee in September, and two spring workshops scheduled at the Dallas Arboretum. Plus, I had two seats just open for my previously full April workshop in North Texas, so don't delay - put a little joy in your brush and let's make brilliant spring flowers bloom in oil!  Read more about all my workshops here!

Bouffant Iris by Nancy Medina

Bouffant Iris
10X10
Oil on Canvas

This little purple iris is one in a series I've painted from photos taken after a visit this past spring to the Argyle Acres Iris Farm. My husband and I ordered a few dozen iris rhizomes for planting while we were there and they arrived in a big box on the front porch this afternoon.

I can hardly wait to supervise while the hubby does the planting. Iris advice from expert growers would be greatly appreciated!
