Painted Ladies of Louisiana With Sunflowers
by Nancy Medina

Class Demonstration

SOLD

20X20
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

I got a phone call from blogger yesterday asking where I've been the past few days. I had such a fun time painting flowers with the talented ladies of Lafayette, Louisiana, and eating large portions every night of crab etouffe, shrimp gumbo and roasted oysters with parmesan dribbled generously in butter that I completely lost track of time. By Day 2, none of the pants I had packed in my suitcase fit anymore. My fingers were no longer able to type anything discernible on my laptop keyboard with the exception of "Siri, find directions to the nearest Cajun Restaurant...PRONTO!" I'm a firm believer, however, that if you're going to indulge, do it with something absolutely yummy, and I have never found a bad restaurant in Louisiana. Had I planned better, I would have anticipated this before departure, and packed something with an elastic waistband.... Read more...

Stars Reach Red Roses

SOLD

Oil on Archival Panel

Today was the first day of my Lafayette, Louisiana workshop, with 17 very talented ladies from Mississippi, Alabama, and across Louisiana. We had so many flowers to choose from, today's paintings featured purple tulips, white hydrangeas, and blue delphiniums. Visit my art blog today to see photos from class. While I'm teaching painting, the gals are teaching me some wonderful local sayings that I'll be sharing with you soon.  I have to run, we are heading out to the Blue Dog Cafe for some awesome cajun food. Come on out and meet us there - If you hurry, I'll save you a bite of key lime pie....

Southern Kitchen Sunflower is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, as I work on a four foot  Dallas Arboretum cherry blossom tree commission.  A visit to the arboretum means returning home with 600 new photos to add to the Cloud from my IPad. I'm not sure what happens up there in the Cloud, exactly, and occasionally I like to take a peek just to make sure the Cloud has not dissipated. I've heard ugly rumors that if you fill up the Cloud, you get a bill, or a request for money, lest the Cloud take your treasured photos and disappear. I'm not quite sure how one puts borders and limits on a cloud, since it is a nebulous substance mother nature contracts and expands at will to accommodate moisture content in the atmosphere. But I digress!

I'm excited to announce my first ever workshop in Louisiana! You are invited to join me in Lafayette March 21-23, 2014, to make brilliant flowers bloom in oils. I'll teach a loose, bright technique in this fun, 3 day workshop and share all my favorite tips and techniques to make your paintings sing with color. I hope to see you there! South Louisiana - even the air is alive! The swamps and bayous of Louisiana has its own still beauty. I used to kayak along this body of water when my family had a camp on Bay Sec off little River in Marksville. For more daily paintings, see my "Tiny Tidbits" blog.
