Snowflake Roses by artist Pat Meyer

Sadly the garden roses have pasted away.  It is so depressing when I cannot go to the rose garden and clip the beautiful scented antique roses.  Therefore, looking to purchase my models this time of year and most of the grocery stores have just the usual type of tight roses.  Came across these roses that seem to be half rose and peonies.  My first thought is perfect!  White roses right here when it has been cold and wet so they adopted the name Snowflake Roses.

Cabbage Rose Paintings by artist Pat Meyer

If you have never purchased this type of cabbage rose you probably don't know how expensive they are per bloom.  This color is one of their move valued cabbage roses so that being the case you need to get your monies worth out of the model.  As we say at our house no one eats for free.  The first painting the 11 x 14 took about 8 hours to paint and the second painting the 5x 7 took about 4 hours to paint.  If you figure it up that is about the same amount of time per square inch of canvas.  Never really thought about it before.

My neighbor was kind enough to let me come and sit and paint her side garden going down the side walk.  The flowers were hanging heavy with the morning dew.  The real star of the show for me was the wonderful dancing pink flower that seem to have her own personality.  This is the last of the season for the these beautiful gardens and now the fall flowers will be planted.  To be able to capture the last moments of these glorious creation is such a blessing.

The Old Boat House by artist Pat Meyer

9 x 12 oil on linen

The path to this old boat house was covered with weeds and didn't look like we could make our way down to the boat house.  Paths are never clear in life and sometimes we fear which way to go.  Fear makes us stop in our tracks and not able to move.  Then we stop and prayer and God clears the way.

When arriving at the Lake house yesterday my excitement started when seeing these beauties at the End of The Porch swaying in the winds.  It was a hot steamy summer day but that didn't stop me from   getting out the brushes and capturing the moment of this sunny day.  The colors were so bright and vivid so why not paint them that way.

Abstract Flowers by artist Pat Meyer

When starting the demo for class the students requested that I approach this painting in a abstract manner.  Yippee something different.  The same thought process goes into an abstract painting. The direction of light the shadow planes and of course drawing is still involved.
