Preview of upcoming exhibition

Greetings all... I periodically pop in and read about the wonderful paintings that are being posted, but I have been basically inactive. I've been painting for about 10 months now for a solo exhibition of several dozen full-sheet and over-sized watercolors. The exhibition hangs at the end of October and I'm working on the last of my paintings, my oak frames have been built, cases of mat boards purchased and the framing process will soon begin. I thought I'd upload a composite of a few of the paintings that will be in my exhibition. Hopefully I will be more active in the coming year.

Squirrel in Tulip Garden Watercolor Art

Oh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me
—Tiny Tim

Tiptoe Through the Tulips
watercolor and ink
6x9 inch Arches 140#hp paper

ART
This wildlife illustration was inspired by a squirrel outside my studio window. Tulips on the window ledge inside the studio found their way into the painting.  I love the color in this painting. Although we think we see squirrels as brown or gray, this brown squirrel is made up of many colors including cadmium orange, burnt sienna, cobalt blue and yellow ochre. Click on the image to see the many colors in this painting.
Available at My Etsy gallery shop where you will see larger images with detail.

Snowmaggedon...and you thought you had it bad...

It's a long story...

so rather than take up the entire screen here, if you'd like to read the tale of 2 humans, 3 parrots, 5 cats and 5 dogs holed up in one room with a broken furnace, frozen shower and toilet pipes during an ice storm, please click here to visit my blog.

About the painting:
This piece I just saw in my head one day. Many ideas come specifically when I'm not thinking about painting. The snow scene is from our back yard. It just needed rabbits. There were 2 snow bunnies originally. One I had standing on his hind legs and it just seemed to throw the design off. So after some deliberation and outside input, *poof* he was gone...down the rabbit hole, perhaps, to see Alice.

"Jack in January Snow"

Caged, Zoo Orangutan, Captured Wildlife, oil painting, Freedom

When I completed this painting, it created some controversy ... as though I had been the one to cage the Orangutan.  By painting this zoo animal, I had hoped to show the emotion in the Orangutan's eyes. I think I captured the look of yearning to be free in this 'relative of humankind'. Who is to say what is in this animal's mind?

Caged Orangutan, oil on canvas. Click on image to see larger detail.
SOLD ~ This painting is in a private collection in Australia. The purchaser identified with the emotion in the Orangutan's eyes.

Great Blue Heron by Nancy Medina

Mister Blue - Great Blue Heron
24X30
Oil on Canvas
Nancy Medina Art

This Great Blue Heron lives on ocean-front property off the coast of New Hampshire. I painted him from a photo taken last week by my talented friend Sharon, a photographer who captures images like this one simply by traveling a mile or two from her front door.

Great Blues have a wonderful call and can be seen across the US. While researching Mister Blue, I found a great Web site where you can hear the voice of the Great Blue Heron. Take a look and scroll down a bit for the play button. Wonderful, yes?
