"Trail's End" Abstract Autumn Landscape Painting by Niki Gulley

“Trail's End" ©2022 Niki Gulley
40” x 30" textured mixed media painting
on 1.5" wrap around canvas with the painting continuing around the edges

You walk down a path sheltered by autumn drenched trees, intrigued by the light flowing through the leaves and branches, casting shadows, colors changing with each gentle breeze, sunlight cascading down your pathway. Peaceful, tranquil this painting flows around the canvas capturing the memory of autumn: lush crisp colors, crunchy leaves and a walk through the woods Walt Whitman would have envied.

Looking for You by Kay Wyne

Looking For You
18" x 36" x 2 1/4"
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
This painting is drying....I used a cooler background color than I normally do on this canvas. The canvas is rather thick, and gives the canvas a chunky, heavy look. I liked the size....more of a small to medium size canvas. I wanted to create some depth, with the viewer looking through the canvas, eye wandering around. The colors on the canvas change from deep violets and purple and greys to roses, oranges and ochers.
Here is a close-up shot of the canvas, as you can see the colors better. A wide, flat brush and palette knife was used to create this painting. Please contact Kay if you are interested in this piece, or any of her other paintings. Thanks, Kay at 214-532-0325 or kay@kwyne.com.

Morning Aspens by Kay Wyne

Morning Aspens

48" x 72" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Dallas.  We have finally moved into some cooler weather, and it was the perfect day for an Art Deck Show.  Our hosts for the show provided a lovely deck with a beautiful yard.  There were eight artists from the Tutti i Lunedi painting group.  This painting sold and will travel to Harbor Springs, Michigan to hang in the collector's new home.  Thanks to all of you who came to the show to show your support.  It was a great day.  Enjoy your Sunday.  Kay

"Aqua Dreams," New textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

“Aqua Dreams” ©2011 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil on canvas

When we arrived at this tranquil spot, the early morning light was very cool in color, but as the sun began to rise from the horizon, it shone this beautiful warm light that shimmered on the water’s surface and cast its hope of what was to come from the brand new day. I remember the peacefulness I felt in that moment, and a sense that anything was possible. In Aqua Dreams, by showing the contrast in the cool aqua/blues in the foreground waters against the warm golden glow on the distant pond’s edge, I wanted to share that feeling of hope and promise communicated by nature.

New Textured Birch Painting by Niki Gulley

“Ruby Emergence” ©2011 Niki Gulley
48” x 60” textured acrylic on wrap around canvas

I wanted this painting to be about the power and energy in nature to invigorate your spirit more so than an exact replica of the forest, so I chose to use warm vivid colors and thick staccato strokes to add to that feeling. I placed the foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance.

New Textured Aspen Tree Painting by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Splendor” ©2011 Niki Gulley
36” x 48” textured oil on wrap around canvas

Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, silver and gold with each light breeze.

There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, clean bright skies overhead, a band of slender straight trucks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling tumble of green, crimson and gold.

"Vertical Aspirations" New textured aspen oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Vertical Aspirations” ©2011 Niki Gulley
48” x 36” textured oil on canvas

In this painting I wanted you to feel that child-like wonder of staring up in into the treetops and the heavens above. Choosing vibrant, cheerful yellows contrasted against a crystal blue sky and arranging the aspens in a circular pattern heightened by thick, curving paint strokes, both add to that joyful, playful feeling of hope and discovery.

New Textured Aspen Painting by Niki Gulley

“Enjoying the View” ©2011 Niki Gulley
48" x 30" textured oil on canvas

Gentle hill and valley give way to a view triumphant; a view of steep, purple mountains crusted with snow, the soft morning light diffuses across the valley. A litany of lights and darks, greens and golds cross hatch the foothills below. White barked Aspens, straight and narrow guard the riot of color beneath them as a golden promontory rises up in the east. Tranquility and joy abound, a sense of peace and serenity flows from this one mystical moment captured forever.

To see my aspen paintings and more of my contemporary landscape oil paintings, stop by my booth at the Saint Charles Fine Art Show this weekend in the Chicago suburb of St. Charles. See dtown.org/events/fine_art_show.asp for details.

Contemporary Aspens by Kay Wyne

Contemporary Aspens
I just finished these aspens today. They are on a 12" x 48" Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas...very tall and narrow. The oils are thick and buttery...it will take weeks for this to dry. I was inspired by a photograph taken by Sara Settles in Colorado...of course I added my own flair to the trees and landscape. I haven't had time to really think about the title for this painting...if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks for viewing this blog.

Starting a New Life by Kay Wyne

Starting a New Life
Oil on 48" x 60" on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This contemporary palette knife painting is finished! This a very large canvas with layers and and layers of color. Vibrant colors. The paint is applied with the knife, giving it lots of texture. Last week Lindsay Wyne (soon to be Mrs. Wesley Henry) asked me to paint something for the newlywed's apartment. I knew that the couple wanted lots of color. So I decided to make a statement with my palette knife. This painting of aspens is colorful, fun, fresh, bold, full of energy and it makes you smile. That is exactly how I feel when I see Lindsay and Wes together. They have a wonderful relationship and are getting married in a couple of weeks, starting a new life together. They are so happy. I hope that they feel joy when they see this painting. Best wishes to Wes and Lindsay!

Colorado Aspens oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Snowfall Comes Early" ©2009 Niki Gulley
24" x 18" oil painting

While we were driving from Durango to Aspen, Colorado we came across these gorgeous orange aspen trees. I loved the contrast of the crisp blue sky against the brilliant foliage and the sparkling white snow that had fallen the night before. Colorado is so breathtaking!

Rocky Mountain Aspens

"Rocky Mountain Aspens" ©2009 Niki Gulley

11" x 14" oil painting

I like pushing color to its limits, so in this Colorado painting I wanted to capture the dramatic glow from the sun setting and reflecting on the fall aspens in contrast to the deep blues of the distant Rockies.

Muted Hues

"Muted Hues" ©2009 Niki Gulley
36" x 36" oil on canvas

I paint a lot of bold fall foliage scenes from Colorado and farther north, but I wanted this painting to have a more peaceful feel so I used much softer, more muted color palette to add to that mood.

Vertical Prism

"Vertical Prism" ©2009 by Niki Gulley

30" x 40" oil on canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to feel like a little kid again – laying on the ground and staring up into the treetops without a care in the world. I hope you experience the joy of being surrounded by nature and the beauty in the kaleidoscope of colors in "Vertical Prism."
