Arabian Moves - by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

11 X 14 Oil on Canvas $160
Includes shipping and insurance in US
My friend Tessa raises horses - lots of them - Arabians, Saddlebreds and Quarabs. This is one of her broodmares who always can be counted on to show me lots of flashy movement and her elegant neck. The color bay is probably one of the most common in the horse world, but it's my favorite to paint. And as much as I love quarters horses, I have to admit that Arabians always are great subjects.

Left Out by Debbie Grayson Lincoln

8 X 3.75 inches $100
Includes shipping and insurance

Four Arabian mares in a pasture - one seems to always be apart from the group - whether by choice or by force, it's hard to tell. But we have all been there. I plan to paint this one large - 24 X 12 at least. As small as this painting is, I painted it with a relatively wide brush and I would like to do the larger one the same way. There is something freeing about forcing yourself NOT to be able to do the details - very much like going without makeup for weeks at a time - which is something I do when we go camping. That's very "freeing", too, but then I don't have to look at ME!

Sibling Rivalry - fighting horses

12 X 12 Oil on canvas $215
Includes shipping and handling

My friend Tessa has pastures full of horses. One pen holds the yearling colts and they are a blast to watch "playing". At times I fear they'll injure themselves, but it hasn't happened yet. I guess they know the rules - but I still find myself holding my breath when they rear and fight!

High Tail Heat - running arabian mare painting

9 X 9 oil on masonite $115

It's really hard NOT to use warm colors during this heat wave in Texas. This is a friend's Arabian mare - feeling frisky and not wanting to be caught. I was amazed she had so much energy in 100+ degree weather.

The Painting: I continue to experiment this summer using my acrylics more. With this high humidity it is almost impossible to get oils to dry. I have never 'loved' acrylics, but with the situation as it is, I am learning more about them and their flexibility compared to oils. I have about decided they are as different as night and day. This painting began with pinks, oranges and reds washed thickly over the background. From there the layering of acrylics creates a wash and drip effect and thickening of layers provides contrast in both color and texture.
