The 30 days of January went by pretty fast! I am going to try to keep doing a small painting each day. Not stop on 30, so this begins 28 days in February! (This is actually Day 1, am behind in posting)
This is T-Bone, my daughters sweet little dog. It is painted with oil.   6x6 orange under-painting on a gessoboard.

Day 18-Free Ride by Suzy 'Pal' Powell

6x6 oil on gessobord

$100+$8 shipping

More Wyoming Buffalo...I didn't even see the little bird on his back until I got home and looked at my photos. I wondered about calling it 'Friends' but decided that 'Free Ride' fit it too. I love the buffaloes! They are so majestic, and carefree!

This painting was inspired by an evening in South Carolina.  The colors were amazing and the air was clear and held the fragrance of early autumn.  Sweet memories.

I returned yesterday from a 10 day vacation in Massachusetts and Maine.  No paints were brought, but I took LOTS of photographs and I am looking forward to going through them.  The northeast is such a beautiful part of our country!   We were fortunate to see the works of some of the artists I have been introduced to through the internet ..... Paige RailsbackNancy ColellaMichael RooneyStanley Bielen, just to mention a few.  What a treat!  Pure eye candy!!
This mug shot was painted prior to our trip.  His closed eyes and broken nose attracted me.  He looks as though he has been the loser in many fights.

This small landscape in Latvia was painted from Google Street View.  I painted it for the June challenge at Virtual Paintout, but didn't get it photographed in time.  Being late seems to be the story of my life lately!  This month the paintout is in Thailand.
On another note .... please take a minute and look at Sheila Vaughn's project "Sixty Women  Who Know Something About Me."  Not only is it a creative series, but No. 22 is exceptional!!  Click HERE to visit.

When I was a kid one of my favorite tv shows was "Alfred Hitchcock."  These old episodes are still being shown and I like to catch one once in a while.  While watching one of Hitchcock's stories, I decided that it would be fun to paint a character.  This man's hat attracted me so he was the one!  The painting evolved into a value study and was not only fun to paint, but another learning experience.

I painted this for the Daily Paintworks challenge.  Carol Marine provided the photograph.  I wanted to simplify as much as I could and I think I succeeded.  Take a look at this week's entries for some great paintings.

WHEELIN' IN HILTON HEAD by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I thought it would be fun to do a Daily Paintworks challenge for a change of pace.  This week's challenge is "The Wheel Challenge" suggested by Carol Carmichael.  A photograph I took while in Hilton Head at Karin Jurick's workshop was just the ticket.  Take a few minutes and explore these three sites.  Believe me, you will not be disappointed!

GOT SUGAR? by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This is my grandson, Ben, wearing an old hat and after eating cake with powdered sugar on it.  He had sugar everywhere!  I had to take a photo and I had a lot of fun painting his little sugar mug!

JEAN by Linda Popple

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord
This is Jean Townsend, a fabulous Texas artist (an introduction, just in case you haven't met her).  We've been promising each other to send photos of each other to paint and we finally did.  And I have to tell you that I had a blast painting Jean's mug.  She sent 3 great photos (and, yes I am going to paint them all - maybe more than once).  In this reference photograph, Jean wore a huge frown and smudged lipstick.  Just wonderful!  I've painted this not only for my pleasure and blog, but for Some Texas Artists Like To Paint.  The January challenge is mug shots.  Please check out these two blogs!
