11x14 oil on linen canvas

When I prepared for my demo at Pecan Plantation Art Guild I went out to the location and did several small studies.  I wanted options on what I painted for the group.  This is the first I considered.   Here you can see the photo and small study I worked from.  I loved that the blue bonnets were blooming and scattered about the landscape.  I tried to simplify the design, but decided it was too much for a demo.

From the Garden

14x11 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

Taking the time to plant a garden and reap the benefits are one of my pleasures in life.  This is from a photo I took last year when my sunflowers and larkspurs were blooming. I loved the birds eye view of the blue vase against the round stool it was setting on.

Spring has sprung and I am surrounded by bright happy flowers. This is a warm up to what is inspiring me recently. I pre mixed my colors and with the palette knife I dabbled the paint on. I purposely left the first layer of alizarin crimson peeking through.

20x10 oil on canvas

This was inspired from a trip to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I created it with a palette knife applying the paint in small squares.  I focused on softer edges and colors.

Meranda at Four

12x9 oil on canvas

This painting is part of a new series of new portraits I'm working on. This is my great niece, Meranda surrounded by the crape myrtles in bloom. She is such a delightful child to spend time with. I am lucky she lives close and makes a perfect model.

Thank you to a new collector and Dutch Art Gallery for sending this one off to a new home.  This was a gift for a long lost loved one.  They connected and she brought gifts of geraniums. This painting will remind them of that first meeting.

I love it when a painting connects to someone in a meaningful way. They sent this photo to share.

Hats off to Pam and Nick at Dutch Art Gallery for providing a beautiful frame and service.

Solomon Blowing Bubbles

This is one in my series of new portraits. This is my great nephew, Solomon celebrating at his brother's kindergarten graduation party. He was a great model with his cute sunglass and red hot shirt.

Poppies Field Forever

11x14 oil on canvas

For a lover of color, its was a thrill to see the colorful landscape filled with poppies. This is inspired from the wildflower seed farm in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The wild flowers were popping with color in the morning sun.

10x8 oil on canvas

The new year brought on a self made challenge to paint the children in my family.  I have been saving reference photos for a while and are finally ready to use them. It is hard to get a good photo of this kiddo because he is always on the move. Catching him being idle eating the watermelon was a golden opportunity.

There is nothing better than seeing a field of wildflowers. In certain locations the fields of blue bonnets seems to go on forever. Getting up close and taking in the fragrance of the wild flowers is an added bonus.

10x20 oil on canvas

It's a road trip, and great adventure that I crave. I love to take the scenic route to search for my next painting location.  I found this great spot on the back roads to Glen Rose. I painted this in the studio using photos and color studies.  I used the palette building up layers of colors, block by block.

This is a house I walk by in my neighborhood. I loved the light and colorful trim and have thought about painting it for a while. I took artistic liberty and planted this garden out front. It is filled with texture and eye popping colors.

Fresh View

20x16 oil on canvas

We took a country drive recently and passed by this bright red house. It has a garden of roses at the front gate. I had a vision of of bright and happy hollyhocks instead. I took out my artist license and it seemed to paint itself.  Here's to warmer days and fresh views.

A Hollyhock Hello

14x7 oil on canvas

I took a break from posting, but not from painting.  It is part of my daily practice to get to the studio and paint.  These glowing hollyhocks were inspired from a trip to Santa Fe in the summer time.

Paluxy in Paradise by Sheri Jones

12x9 oil on linen panel

I was blessed to spend the day with friends on the Paluxy River recently. The day started off cold so we bundled up. By the time we made it to the river we were peeling off the layers.  It was a great day painting with friends away from the hustle and bustle of the season.

Promised Rose Garden

20x10 oil on canvas

This painting made my heart sing and reminded me of a song.

Rose Garden

I beg your pardon

I never promised you a rose garden

Along with the sunshine

There's gotta be a rain some time.

From the song Lynn Anderson released in 1970

An oldie, but a goodie.

16x20 oil on canvas

I painted a small study of this scene recently. It helps to work out the color and design, before going large. I just loved the glow of the sage bush as the sun was setting.  The hillside was filled with the sage bush and nice distant views.
