New Iceland Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

9" x 12" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley
Iceland

My husband and I recently visited Iceland and were awestruck by the exotic beauty of the country. On this morning, we returned to one of the striking areas we had hiked through the day before. Scott wanted to return to photograph the light at the perfect time of day, and I opted to paint in lieu of the couple of hour hike. Bundled up with 7 pairs of pants (neat trick!) I set up my easel to capture this winding river and the majestic mountains in the distance. Again, I was taken by the contrast in the vivid blues of the creek and sky against the golds of the foreground. I liked how the meandering river leads you into the reds and rusts of the distant shrubbery, adding a perfect contrast to the rest of the hues. Having snowed the day before, the peaks were covered with a lovely dusting that shows off their impressive size and shapes. And, luckily I kept warm enough to finish the painting and even lose one of the layers of pants at the end of the session!

Inner Tube: Inner Peace

Cold weather meditation

We are to have a winter storm today. My native Texan blood clings to summer’s last warm memory--floating on a river. Texas rivers are why God made inner tubes. If we can remember those warm, lazy days of a gentler current, it might provide insulation against the chill. Scientists agree: thinking of summer is the first step to staying warm.

Texas Expressionist, Lynn Rushton, tells visual stories of daily life. This vibrant oil painting remembers warm summer days. It offers a winter meditation: float
or
(ala Rocky and Bulwinkle)
the strangest things keep you buoyant.

"Boulder River" by Texas artist Rebecca Zook

This smallish piece has been hanging around in my loft and I finally got a frame for it and it's ready for a new home. This is a scene from a trip to Sedona. I was amazed by such a lush river scene while in the midst of the dessert surrounded by soaring red rock wind sculptured pillars. This scene is not how most people would picture Sedona, Arizona.

Fall on the River - Thaw Malin iii

"Fall On The River"

"Fall on the River", this is a small painting, 6" x 8", oil on canvas panel.

For decades I have passed this river on my way to Boston and have wished to paint it. When I finished this painting and did a quick global positioning to really see where I had worked. I was totally surprised to find this was the river I always wanted to paint. It is the North River and passes under Route 3 in Hanover and Pembroke, Ma. It looks beautiful from the highway, but even more stupendous from the river bank, especially in fall colors. I was just a half mile east of where I had first seen it so many years earlier...

If you'd like to purchase, please click Go to my Auction, bidding starts at $100.00 US.
