Touch of Fall White Hydrangeas was one of my class demonstrations today in Collierville, Tennessee. The ladies produced a plethora of lovely white hydrangeas, painting from life this afternoon, and fueled by gourmet cake donuts provided by our gracious host and hostess, Carolyn and Emory Brown. I'm glad they had the donuts, because I unintentionally traumatized the entire class trying to make a point this afternoon. Read more....

Class Demonstration

New Love White Hydrangeas was my class demonstration this morning in Alton, Illinois, and tomorrow we wrap up four days of making brilliant flowers bloom in this historic town where the Lincoln-Douglas debates were held, where the underground railroad had a big presence, and where Lewis and Clark made their historic journey. You simply can't find richer history in this region of the US, I wish I could stay another week just to explore!

If you've been following my bloggy this week, you may have gleaned by now that I am staying in a rather historic old home, one which is rumored to have at least one or two ghosts. Read more...

Color Connection Hydrangeas

Color Connection is the newest daily painting in Flower Mound Studio, it's so good to be home after back to back trips. I'll be sending out a big announcement via the newsletter Thursday, so be sure to sign up if you haven't already. I also have a new FREE video I made for you while flying home from New Orleans this week. I've discovered sitting on a plane is about the only time I can dedicate uninterrupted time to editing videos. Since we are all waiting with bated breath for my DVD lessons to launch (I'm being patient, I swear I am, my videographer is wonderful and she has a new baby, after all, the best reason on earth not to rush your videographer....), it seemed only proper that we have a little appetizer video to hold us over. I'll share that with you Thursday morning, bright and early, also via the newsletter. Sign up here so you won't miss out, there is a cameo appearance by one of  my helpers, after all....

Class Demonstration

I'm honored to announce I've been invited to provide a painting demonstration for the Irving Arts Association this week. This is one of the most active art groups in Texas, filled to the gills with outstanding award winning painters and teachers. I confess I'm just a little nervous, but I'm sure as soon as I get that brush loaded up with paint and I'm in front of that blank canvas, all will be well. I used to be absolutely terrified of speaking in public, to the point of needing medication to get through it. Ever since I began teaching painting, though, it is like breathing. I actually enjoy it. How strange, don't you think, that such a thing can reverse itself? Have you ever had that happen?

Halos and Hydrangeas - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

Halos and Hydrangeas

I planted all but one pot of hydrangeas from my Louisiana workshop last week. The last bunch to hold up under the studio spotlight was featured in Halos and Hydrangeas today, and tomorrow the plant itself will go into my garden. It's the ultimate in recycling! Paint the flowers, plant the flowers. My next two workshops are full, so I've opened up a new workshop in North Texas, and another in Spring, near Houston, in the new gallery located in the heart of this charming town. My workshops are open for beginners to advanced painters, and I share how to make your paintings more dramatic, how to simplify your shapes and create exciting, clean color, and most of all, how to paint loosely, giving your work energy and flow. Put a little joy in your brush and let's make flowers bloom in brilliant color together!
