Barn in plein air...after day one.

This is a 20" x 24" canvas, on location in 

Evergreen, Colorado.

I was challenged by the moving light and shadows 

on the barn.I had to work very fast....at this point

I had painted about 90 minutes, drawing

and painting in color.  I had to quit at this point, 

and returned the next

day to catch the details of the shadows.

I also had an issue with the sun light moving 

so quickly, that it hit the back of my easel.  So grabbing 

the right colors, focusing on 

the light and shadows and painting fast was important.  

I have a green when I paint, 

and tried a new approach to get some 

earthy and cool greens...lots of mixing going on.  

I probably should post a pic of my palette....

it was a real mess!

This was created during the Paint the Town paint out in Marble Falls, Texas. We found a private spot  on a cul-de-sac overlooking the river. We were there to paint the sunset and this was a warm up. I painted this with a palette knife and swift strokes. It is available for purchase. $150.00

I painted this just outside of Marble Falls, Texas during the Paint the Town paint out.  This was my first painting I did during the event.  We found this spot after driving around looking for inspiration. The colors in the water were what I found intriguing. It was a great event with over 60 artist participating.

I painted this today at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  Thanks to all that stopped by.  It was a fun day in a beautiful gallery with a top selection of art.  She has 12 new larger paintings of mine, including this one.  I painted this with a palette knife and lots of colorful paint. The study I used for this was painted in the Whiskey Flat's area outside Ft. Worth. It was early morning and a cloudy day. This painting is available through Dutch Art Gallery.

My friend Joyce Thomas and I have painted at this spot a number of times, but never at sunrise. We met early to make it in time to set up and be ready for the show. We had a great morning and were finished by noon. This is in Hood County on Neri Road. The locals pronouce it Knee Rye. This painting is available for purchase. $100.00

I painted this yesterday morning on a nice back road outside of Glen Rose, Texas.  I called one of my local friends to find out where the bluebonnets were and her husband directed us to this sweet spot.  It was a quite and peaceful setting. The only traffic we saw were a car and a few bicycles.
