30 days of sketching

I did the 30 day sketchbook challenge. This is a collage of the 30 days plus 2 days in February.
I have decided to include my sketches along with the watercolors and collages from  now on, instead of having a separate blog.  Now it will all be together.
We had a prompt for everyday. I did skip a couple days, due to not being home or not wanting to draw something weird.
I enjoyed the ones I did though!  I do love to draw while watching Television.  Drawing everyday has made such a difference!

A New Year of Sketches by Suzy Pal Powell

After sketching every day in December I sort of took a break! I have not done much since then, so here is a Panda Bear that was at the Atlanta Zoo. Such a cutie, just lying there watching people snoozing off and on.

Family Heirloom by Suzy Pal Powell

This is a small painting of a friends Mothers Saddle. 11x14.  

She was an awesome Cowgirl! Her entire life she dressed the part. 

She was such a neat lady. I didn't do it justice, but enjoyed painting it anyway.

Shear Madness

We were coming through Snyder Texas and I shot a photo of this old building through the window. When I saw all the electrical lines and boxes, I had to laugh to myself! It was so funny looking.
I sketched it and liked the way the sketch looked so i drew it off on 1/2 sheet of watercolor paper.
I used the pouring technique, but wasn't happy with it.  It was so dark, drab and muddy, so I got out my gouache and started painting, to brighten it up.  I like it now. At least it has some color to it.

North Light Book

Wow I am so behind on posting, but I haven't gotten to paint in a while now.  The holidays, etc come first sometimes!  We had an awesome Christmas time with our family, and hope you did too!
As long as we have our families, friends and health we are so rich!

I just got an email from North Light Book Club saying I had been selected for their new Incite 4 Book. Relax, Restore and Renew is the theme.  I entered 3 of my collage campers, and they chose 2.
Both of these pieces have been sold.

This will probably be the last post of 2015! I can't believe how fast the time has gone by.
Thanks for checking in on what I paint and what is going on with my 'art life'.

Santa Fe #18 by Suzy Pal Powell

This was a hard painting for me. It took me all day! I had some new boards and had to do something to give it some tooth so it wouldn't be so slick.  This is larger too, than what I have been painting on.

It is 6x12".  I also added the sketch and the photo that I used.  i changed up the background. It had too much green for me!

We are half way through with the 30 day challenge. Seems like it has gone fairly fast!
I am late getting mine done today.  Had to be gone most of the day.  This is 6x8 acrylic on gessobord.

One more little Camper for the October Workshop! This is 8x10 stretched canvas.
These are fun to do but hard! Especially the smaller ones.  The small ones are harder to do because of such small pieces.Dragonfly

Grandmother's Porch by Suzy Pal Powell

This is another poured painting.   I did this same painting years ago and wanted to try pouring it.

It takes some thinking to know which to pour first, what to cover up, etc. When I got ready to remove the miskit, the whole sheet was covered. 

It is a little larger than 1/2 sheet.  

Summer Art Shows

I found out that my painting 'Just Horse'n Around' got in the Wyoming Watercolor Society Show.

Also, I had 3 miniatures accepted in the Dutch Art Gallery show ' Its a Small World Art Exhibiton'
 in Dallas.

On Ice by Suzy Pal Powell

This was a fun watercolor! I used a size 38 brush, which is huge, 

but it kept me from being too picky with putting the color down. 

After I painted it and it was dry, 

I used a bamboo calligraphy pen and using waterproof ink, 

drew the black lines.  16x20 with a mat and frame.

Savannah The Cat by Suzy Pal Powell

This is Savannah, one of my friend's cats. She dresses her up and she doesn't mind at all. She is so cute. They are painted on watercolor canvas with watercolor and gouache. 5x7

Past Life

I could not think of a name for this painting.  For years I sewed every day, making all our clothes as well as sewing for the public.  One day, I stopped. The thought of sewing is not anything I enjoy thinking about.  I found these old wooden spools that I still had and thought they might make a good set up.  The cloth under them is from a wedding gift...50 years ago. It is colorful cut-work that was on pillowcases.  Cut work is very time consuming and hard.  It takes hours and hours to hand stitch the designs.  This is 6x6 oil on gessobord. This is available.
