I tried a different approach with this painting. I wanted to keep the background colorful and loose. I found the contrasting colors of the larkspur and sunflowers eye stopping. I applied the paint with a palette knife, creating the texture I was going for.

The delightful painting was inspired from the banks of the Brazos river.  The wild flowers provided pops of color. 

Spending time in nature, painting, gathering ideas and observing are part of my process. I came home filled with ideas and created this.

This painting was inspired by a small study I created in the Ft. Worth Botanical Garden. I took a photo of the scene for use in the studio later. The two young ladys were strolling through about that time.

The weather here has been nice and warm with temperatures in the 80's. That is going to make the flowers pop.

This was inspired by a photo I took in the Willow City Loop area. This is in the Texas Hill Country and a location that is well known for it's wildflowers in the Spring time. I enjoy the flowers, but the low river bank is a lure for me. I am attracted to the path the water makes and this draws me in. I created this with a palette knife and lots of paint. I painted this today plein air. The weather was windy but warm. My friend Jill and I took off looking for inspiration and we didn't go far. We have painted in this area outside Granbury many times, but never went down this road. We were thrilled to find this location. It was a quite country road with no traffic and so peaceful. I'll bet we return here soon.

I painted this plein air in Grapevine, Texas. We had a gathering of the Outdoor Painters Society on Saturday. There must have been over thirty painters there. The weather was outstanding, reaching 80 degress. I have painted a number of old vehicles and it sure helps when you are out on the streets painting. It was great to get outside and enjoy the warm winter day.

I created this from a study I painted at Palo Duro Canyon. This is in the panhandle of Texas outside of Amarillo. Palo Duro Canyon is 120 miles long, up to 20 miles wide, and up to 820 feet deep, making it the United States' second largest canyon.
I had a request from a niece to create a painting for her dorm room. She is from Amarillo and wanted one of the canyon. So Happy Birthday Callie! This one's for you. Love you.

This painting was inspired from a trip to Willow City Loop last spring. This is a rural area in the Texas Hill Country. We were taking roads less travelled and enjoyed discovering this backroad creek. This 22 mile loop will take you on one of the most beautiful areas in Texas. When blue bonnets are at their prime this is a must see. I created this with a palette knife.
