I had a new commission of a beach scene and was hesitate to start. I needed to be there and fill the ocean air before I begin.  It worked, I was fortunate to visit the beach with 4 sisters, 3 nieces and 1 great niece to celebrate my and my twins birthday. It was fantastic to watch the sun rise and spend time with my family while there. Love

These ruby lilies really warmed my heart and made me want to paint them. I set the flowers out in the bright sun to create deep shadows.. The shadow they cast was as alluring as the flowers. Spring flowers make me happy!

Allure of An Early Morning

The warm winter grasses inspired this painting.  I started this with a quick thumbnail sketch and recorded color notes on the side.  I used a Winsor & Newton paper that is designed for oil paints.  It's a great way to explore color combinations and design.

This painting all started at the Master's Garden in Granbury. I painted while the asters were in bloom and returned as often as I could to paint them.   I created this from a field study for a painting demo I did for the Weatherford Art Association. This tree was an explosion of color.  The warm leaves against the cool sky seem to vibrate.  I started with an undercoat of black. I sketched in the tree branches and building.  I approached it by painting in blocks of color, carving out the details. Another fun time with color.

It's the time of the year when all the stores have poinsettia for sale. When I saw this shade of the pink ,I grabbed it.  I waited for the sun to come out and the weather to allow me to paint outside and did this.  Painting from life is the way to go.
