Wash Day Oil Painting By Texas Artist Shirley Quaid

The days of this kind of laundry day drudgery is long gone for the fortunate few who live in the developed nations. I remember my mother washing with a wringer machine on the back porch and then carrying loads of heavy washed clothes out to the clothes line to hang it to dry. One time was more memorable than others as an oil well was being drilled not far from the farm where we lived. For some reason, when they began drilling our back yard and all of the clean laundry was covered with red mud! Talk about angry! My 4ft 10in mother had a 'talk' with the drillers and the result was a check to cover having the laundry redone.
I hope you enjoy this painting. It is an 8x10 inch on panel and was painted with both brushes and a palette knife.
