Sunlight Sunflower Bright is the newest work in the studio, as I prep canvases for two new commissions this weekend. I am still sorting through the photos from our recent trip to Carmel, California, a little town with the interesting distinction of having no street addresses downtown. Inland from Carmel and about a half an hour drive away we visited the historic Mission San Juan Bautista. I'm sharing a photo tour of this Mission with you below. I am only a bit superstitious by nature, and I will say that this is one place I would never want to stay in overnight by myself. The air in the Mission seemed to be filled with history's ghosts, and even thr grounds felt as if they vibrated with message of times gone by. Visit my art blog for a tour of the Mission grounds and the Mission cemetery.

Make Room Sunflower Painting by Texas Artist Nancy Medina

Make Room Sunflowers

Make Room Sunflowers is drying on the easel, as I watch my three studio assistants squeeze onto one pillow for the prime snuggle spots. This new sunflower work is based on my photos from last summer. The seeds for new sunflowers are planted in my garden and I have been eagerly watching for the first little shoots to peek up from the soil. It will be more than a month before my new sunflowers open, if they survive, the wind, the nibbley critters in the yard, and the rain and heat between now and then. But I have high hopes!

Now and Then Sunflowers is the newest work in Flower Mound Studio and is an original oil painting on deep gallery wrap canvas. Sunflowers are one of my favorite subjects, and I tend to paint them frequently enough that my family has decided they may have to stage a sunflower intervention soon.

These little sunflower peepers are drying on the easel in the studio, and we're in a celebratory mood this evening. Tomorrow I am off work, and have all sorts of fun plans, including painting time in the studio with the assistants. Two four-foot container garden paintings will ship to Coronado, California, and then I'll start a new one for the Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.

Whatever you have planned for this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends and little four footed companions to keep life interesting!
