Purchase Information

Living inland from the Gulf of Mexico, I crave oysters more than ever.  After slurping down a dozen or so at every seafood restaurant I visit in the Austin, Texas area, many shells find their way into my purse to use as models for my paintings.  This is one of them.

Purchase Information

One of the most mesmerizing of shells is the abalone. As a child, I had a large one (purchased in a beach gift shop during a family vacation in Nagshead, North Carolina). I kept my favorite pieces of jewelry in it for years. Sadly, it disappeared some time after I graduated from college (any ideas, Mom?) and I’ve always regretted not having one to paint. (If you are familiar with my work, I ADORE painting sea shells.) Recently, however, I acquired a “new” abalone shell. Look out, world—this is my first abalone painting, but it won’t be my last!

Purchase Information

This is a special oyster shell for an obvious reason:  the smooth inner shell (also known as the Mother of Pearl or nacre) is mostly purple.  Nature is full of surprises.  One just needs to pay attention....
