I woke up this morning wanting to paint a floral still life....so will take the beautiful flowers from Easter to the studio today and set up a still life.  I was looking at this painting yesterday, looking at the lights and darks, reflections, shadows, shapes and colors....

This still life is signed and now drying at the studio.

There were several challenges in this painting for me...

putting in the shadows, the hi lights on the fruit, and nailing

down the colors.  I loved the fullness of the peonies 

and the large shadow that was cast in this still life.  

I used a #12 Filbert on most of the painting and

some new paints.  It is always fun to find

new materials to paint with.  Thanks for looking

I love the shape of pears... lusciously round, a bit lumpy and interestingly lopsided, heavy-bottomed... and oh so sweet! Gee, it reminds me of the Sicilian women in my family.
