True confessions:  I did not paint this painting this week for the Paint Challenge.....I came up short today for a new painting because the heat went out in the studio.  It was just too darn cold to get creative and sling paint.  So, I am pulling this colorful painting out and posting.  I wanted the canvas to be bold, colorful and full of energy.  This painting is hanging at the studio, and is for sale.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog, and stay warm!  It's cold in Dallas!  Kay

Contemporary Equine Painting

I am still adding 'salt and pepper' to the surface and balancing things out. I have sent it to the collectors by images and I do believe we are about finished. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did doing it. I have another day left working on the sides and then waiting to varnish it.

Without expectations, this horse painting came to life with a strong spirit.

This painting has intensity. This contemporary horse painting is a journey in itself as I began a different painting on the surface and discovered it was not where my creativity was smiling, so from that point, Traveler began to take its place on the surface. Rough ragged terrain and a horse crossing over it, blending in with the colors and the spirit.

The Painting:  It began late one night as I walked into the studio and had a glass of water in my hand. Typical in my moods as the dogs danced around my feet I poured water across the canvas and began my work.  It takes several days to do one of these paintings as the layering has to dry in between. This one took on life quickly as  the second and third layer of colors appeared and then the horse. I know I am in a groove when the eye of the horse settles in something I have precreated on the canvas.

The Painting:  A pull ... a pull with some favorite colors on THICK crisp white.  There is a movement with in these on the pure white that brings me to a musical movement as you would read music and perform it....in 3/4 time of course!  Named the Power of Three...can you guess why?
