Contemporary Wildflower Landscape Painting

Day 6 of the 30/30 Paint Challenge with Leslie Saeta

I thought I was finished with this painting days ago, but

took a look at it after I photographed it, and was not

sure that it was finished.  I added some color and lots of

texture in the foreground.  The muted colors were just too

dull and un-inviting for me.  I really like the punch of the

lavender and yellows in the flowers.  Contact Kay for

Contemporary Palette Knife Painting

I got my palette knife out for this painting...I used thick, juicy globs of oils...so it will take some time for it to dry.  I wanted to paint a landscape that would take the eye from the foreground to the horizon.  The wildflowers are put in with very little detail...just shapes, color and texture.  This painting is drying in the studio right now, but will be shipped to a gallery once it is dry.  Thanks for looking at the art posted here.  Contact Kay if you have any questions or comments.  Thank you...Kay

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feel using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy, so I chose to paint this landscape at dusk as the sun is starting to set over the distant hills to add to that mood. I love the wildflower masses in the foreground creating waves of color, and the curving shapes adding to the sense of tranquility. I was mesmerized watching the cinematography in the movie “What Dreams May Come” and my painting reminded me a little of those magical graphics, so I decided to title my piece the same.
