Random Ideas by Kay Wyne

Random Ideas
40" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
Sometimes I feel like my brain has all these ideas for painting and I can't get into the studio fast enough to get the paint on the canvas.  That is exactly what happened when I painted this colorful abstract. I used scrapers, brushes and palette knifes to put the paint down, and painted very fast.  The result is a fresh and unexpected abstract.  Random Ideas is at the studio, and available for purchase.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking....KMW

The Many by Kay Wyne

The Many
48" x 60" Oil on Heavy Duty Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I was in the mood for some great colors and big shapes when I started with this canvas.  I pulled out lots of my transparent to start this canvas, toning it with cad red and cad orange to get ride of the blank white canvas staring at me.  I took a large filbert and drew all over, creating lines and shapes.  I wanted to create an image that was happy, harmonious in color, and allowed the viewer to be pulled in and interested in what I put on the canvas.  Interesting comments have come to me...some viewers see horse races, a crowd of people at a football game or a floral landscape.

"The Many" is a great title for this piece, as it allows the viewer to decide for themselves exactly what they see.  Thanks to Jake Small for naming this canvas!!!  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Crowd Pleaser by Kay Wyne

Crowd Pleaser
48" x 60" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
"Crowd Pleaser" is signed, and drying at the studio...Starting this painting with transparent washes, I had a couple of ideas in mind for this rather large canvas.  I have been wanting to paint a large floral landscape, then I thought it was about time to paint some roosters.  In the end, a very abstract floral landscape appears...but one very different from what I was working on in the beginning.

My husband, John said that it looks like a crowd of people, and along with the pleasant colors I used, he suggested the title.  I am alway open to suggestions when it comes to naming my canvases...and I thought he nailed it.  "Crowd Pleaser" works for me!   Layers of mixed colors applied with brushes, allow the canvas to have paint built up in some areas.  This painting is available for purchase...contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at my blog!  Kay

Quiet Space by Kay Wyne

Quiet Space
14" x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
Soft, muted colors make this abstract a very calm and quiet painting.  I was experimenting with some new color combos on this one.  Actually, I painted over a landscape painting that I really didn't think was very good.  So there are some colors from the underpainting that peak through.  I like the cool greens, greys and grey-lavenders.  The touches of pink give it a little punch.  This painting is ready to hang---framing is optional because the sides are painted a warm grey. Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing info.  Kay

Jump-Start by Kay Wyne

Jump-Start
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I was in a blue mood....I pulled out my blues in tubes and oil sticks and made a sample color chart.  Then I picked the blues I thought would be great on this canvas, and mixed a lot of them.  Here is pic of the blue hues that I had at the studio....probably more than I really need.  But after years of painting, I have collected some great blues.  Probably my top three colors are:
  • 1  Richeson Ice Blue
  • 2  Classic Cobalt
  • 3  Charvin Linen Flower

More blue paintings to come...Thanks for looking at Jump-Start!  Contact Kay Wyne for purchasing information.  Have an artful day...Kay

Twister by Kay Wyne

Twister
40" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract
I was thinking of all the severe weather we are having in Texas when I named this contemporary abstract.  The current weather situation of flooding and high winds have left a path of destruction.  On my canvas, the eye of the storm on the canvas is swirling, as if I am looking at a tornado from an aerial view.  The muddy greys and violets are mixed in with the olive greens...it's not my usual color palette.  You can see the wide swipes or strokes that I took with the palette knife, leaving some texture on the canvas.  This painting is drying in the studio...Contact ME for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay

30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This painting is currently hanging in my studio, wanting to be placed in a new home.  It is ready to hang, with the sides of the canvas painted.  Framing is optional.  "Field of Color" has huge amounts of paint built up, creating texture.  I used a palette knife to mix my oils and then apply the paint to the canvas.  Contact Kay for more info on this painting.  Thanks, KMW

Rattled by Kay Wyne

Rattled
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
I remember the day that I painted this contemporary abstract.  As I was starting this painting in the studio when I received a very annoying telephone call from a gallery owner.  The interruption shifted my mood and the plans I had for the canvas.  I was derailed.  The color palette that I used and the bold strokes tell that on the canvas.  I used oil sticks and oil paints with brushes and a palette knife to indicate the frustration and energy I had that day.  This painting is at the studio, and would love to move to a new home.  Contact Kay for more info.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Kay

Joyful by Kay Wyne

Joyful
18" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Still Life Painting
This contemporary oil painting has been drying at the studio.  It is on a chunky (2 1/2") stretcher bar, and sides of the canvas are painted.  So frame is optional.  The colors are crisp and clean.  I was careful not to mix my oils too much, which could lead to the dreaded MUD.  The corals, oranges and rosey colors pop with the grey/blue background.  Hints of green, turquoise and whites make the florals come alive.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for checking out this blog!  Kay

Impulsive by Kay Wyne

Implusive
18" x 18" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Landscape
Lots of color, paint and line going on with this canvas.  The vivd colors bounce off of each other and make the unusual color combinations interesting.  There are lines and shapes scraped into the thick paint.  Sculpting tools, palette knives and brushes were my tools of choice.  I used plenty of impasto so that the paint would dry and have lots of body.  This painting is hanging at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Flutter by Kay Wyne

Flutter
24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Today's post is a canvas that I painted several months ago, and it is finally dry.  This dragonfly is abstract and colorful.  I love painting with the palette knife---pushing the paint around, scraping and building the layers up.  I am getting ready to do a palette knife demo this week, so that will be fun.  I have been working on projects in the studio, but don't have a new one to post today.  Thanks for looking....contact Kay for comments or questions.  Thanks, Kay

Blue Vase by Kay Wyne

Blue Vase
24" x 24" Oil on Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thick paint and oil bars were used to create this floral still life painting.  I used the palette knife to layer the paint and build up the texture for the vase and flowers.  This contemporary abstract still life painting looks great framed up!  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for viewing...Kay

Courageous by Kay Wyne

Courageous
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
Courageous is a contemporary abstract painting with bold colors.  I started with a titan buff background so that the ochre, scarlet and the blues would bounce off of each other.  The wide brushstrokes give the canvas movement, energy and boldness.  I was careful not to create muddy colors...something that is so easy to do when painting in oils.  This painting was painted horizontally, but as we have experimented in the studio, it can hang vertically.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks, Kay

The Long Road Ahead by Kay Wyne

The Long Road Ahead
14" x 14" Old on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Landscape Painting
This painting started with a photograph taken by my husband years ago.  I liked the road, and the hint of flowers along the countryside.  I don't know where the photo was taken, but I took my artistic license and changed the colors, but wanted the long road to disappear into the horizon.  The color palette is somewhat toned down for me...but I enjoyed experimenting with the lavenders, magentas and olive greens.  Thanks for looking at this blog...Contact me if you have any questions or comments.  This painting is for sale...and needs a new home.  Thanks, Kay

Courageous by Kay Wyne

Courageous
30" x 40" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Abstract Painting
This abstract got some attention this week at the studio, as I was looking at it with a friend. I painted it on a horizontal format.  It was brought to my attention that it looked like it should be hung vertically, as in the photo below.
Either way, the bold color against the titan buff background bounces against the ochre and the blues.  There is alot of movement in the painting, with wide brush strokes.  I wanted this piece to have energy and boldness.  Your eye may like it horizontally or vertically...it can be hung either way.  Thanks for looking at this blog and the art posted here.  Have a great weekend with family and friends.  I will be in the kitchen today getting ready for Easter.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments on my art.  Kay

A Burst Of Color by Kay Wyne

A Burst Of Color
14"x 14" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This contemporary abstract landscape evolved after I mixed and mixed and mixed colors.  I love the tangerine and hot magenta along with the golden yellow/orange. It is fresh, bold and fully of energy!  This painting has texture since I layered and layered the oils with my palette knife.   It is currently drying at the studio.  Please contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking at this blog....Kay
