Dallas Days by Kay Wyne

Dallas Days
36" x 48" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Cityscape
Inspired by a plein air experience at White Rock Lake, I decided that I would go with a large canvas --- 36" x 48" in the studio.  The subject matter was the same, with the Dallas skyline in the background, White Rock Lake and the tall grass on the hill in the foreground. Wide brushstrokes and palette knife work were used to create this cityscape.  It is drying at the studio...contact Kay Wyne for more info.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  KMW

White Rock Lake Boats by Kay Wyne

White Rock Lake Boats
16" x 20" Oil on RayMar Cotton Panel
This painting is the first in a series of landscapes.  I am starting the Leslie Saeta 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge and it begins on September 1st!  I decided to paint landscapes so that I would have a theme and I have some wonderful places to go and paint in Dallas.  I used lots of juicy oils in this painting, and wanted it to be loose and colorful.  More tomorrow....join me and about 300 other artists painting for Leslie's challenge...it is fun and helps you paint everyday.  Thanks for viewing....KMW

White Rock Lake oil painting by Niki Gulley

9" x 12" oil painting by Niki Gulley at White Rock Lake

I painted this small oil painting at White Rock Lake earlier this week, getting ready for my Plein Air Workshop this weekend. It was a perfect morning – blue skies and a gentle breeze, with an ideal temperature. I was attracted to the multi-colored sailboats and the interesting pattern they formed. With so many boats, I sketched out my composition and then I had to paint very quickly before the light changed – a fun challenge and an enjoyable, peaceful morning.

White Rock Lake painting with Niki Gulley

"Bridge to Tomorrow" ©2011 Niki Gulley
12" x 24" textured oil painting

On a peaceful autumn day last fall, I went out to White Rock Lake and captured this beautiful sunset behind the Dallas skyline. I liked the intricacy of the bridge and how it crossed through the composition, connecting the left and the right sides. The sunlight was peaking through the ironwork and various plants in the foreground were back lit, while the water's surface was shimmering from the low light, spreading vivid colors in all directions. A perfect ending to the day!
