Texas Flag Palette Knife Painting by Judy Mackey

"Texas Star"
24" x  24" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas
$1000.00

My first try at this sort of loose, almost abstract painting of the Texas flag turned out so well that I had to try it again.  The first one, "Lone Star" is on exhibit from Mar 2 to April 17th at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau on Main Street in Grapevine, TX as part of the Grapevine Art Project's 2013 Juried Art and Sales event.  Stop by the Convention and Visitor's Bureau if you're visiting Grapevine to see over 100 works by local artists.

Lone Star flag by Judy Mackey

"Lone Star"
24" x  24" x 1.5", Oil on Stretched Canvas

I loved painting the U.S. flag so I thought I'd do the Texas Flag - I didn't paint to the edges and let it fade to the black that I pre-painted the canvas with - I like the way this turned out and may try a few more like this.

Texas Horned Lizard with Color Vibrations

Sorry I haven't posted in quite awhile.  I've actually been painting a lot in preparation for a major solo exhibit later on in the summer at the Kemp Center for the Arts NorthLight Gallery in Wichita Falls.  To make sure most of my work is new and fresh, I'm saving some of my paintings to unveil at that show.  This image is a little preview of some things to come.  It's a 9x12 original on canvas of one of my horned toad interpretations. Currently priced at $275. or I might even consider your best offer.  Give me a shout.

Just Visiting

Completed as a commission, this painting is done in the manner of my Texas tailgate series with the early '50's style pick-up parked in front of the old Montague County jail. Though no longer used to house prisoners, it has become a meeting facility for various groups in the county. The walls are painted with murals by local artists to preserve some of the county's history. It was also the original meeting place for the founding of the Chisholm Trail Art Association in January 2007 and remained so until our group outgrew the meeting space. If you have a special place or event that you'd like to commemorate, I could paint one of my tailgate series for you complete with personalized license plate and whatever else you wish to tell your special story.

Star Pitcher

This 12"x12"x1 1/2" original oil is on a gallery wrap canvas requiring no frame. The old bentwood chair was inherited from my aunt and the pitcher was modeled after a pitcher I inherited from my mom. The painting is available for $350 + tax or your best offer starting at $175. Please let me know if you are interested in this nostalgic one-of-kind painting.

Don't Be Just Average

This is my first post on Daily Painters of Texas. It is an honor to be a part of this group of excellent artists.

In addition to larger paintings that I create for shows, galleries, and commissions, each week I paint at least one small 6" x 8" original oil in a series that I call "Postcards from Texas" and e-mail it out to currently over 750 folks all around the country that have expressed an interest in following my progress as an artist. I am happy to report that I sell about 3 out of every 4 "postcards" that I paint. Oh, they are not real postcards. I just call them that since they are bigger than standard size postcards (Texans would understand that.) and they do come from a Texas artist who really loves Texas stuff. This painting is sold, but be sure to look for others that need a good home. Happy Trails, LGL
