New "Tuscan Dreams" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Tuscan Dreams" ©2016 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Tuscany, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky with a few clouds drifting by on a beautiful day in springtime, the poppies and wildflowers are in full bloom. Using broken impressionistic strokes in surprising hues, causes the landscape to dance and flow, and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

You can paint and photograph these very views if you join us for our Tuscany Workshop in 2017. Don’t miss out on an amazing trip! Space is filling up quickly and there are a few spaces left so that you can experience Tuscany yourself. See nikigulley.com/artreks for details or e-mail Niki Gulley for more information.

Upcoming Plein Air Painting Workshops with Niki Gulley

The Alhambra • Granada, Spain ©2013 Niki Gulley
5" x 8" watercolor

After teaching our workshop in Venice, my husband and I continued onto southern Spain and visited the city of Granada to see the impressive Alhambra castle. Since the walk up to this vantage point was quite strenuous and far from our hotel, I decided to pack light and take my small watercolor kit. The portability of the watercolors turned out perfect and I was able to create this painting before the light changed too dramatically, and still had time to watch the sunset afterwards!

If you'd like to join us on one of our upcoming European Art Treks, please let me know. Closer to home I'll be leading a Plein Air Painting Workshop sponsored through the Good Art Company gallery in Fredericksburg, TX, April 5-7 and an afternoon class at the Dallas Arboretum, March 13th from 3pm - 7pm.

Silent Serendipity is an award winning painting of white poppies and white hydrangeas, and is a reflection of the first breath of spring in Flower Mound Studio. I could see this as a terrible time, with my mother in hospice, but instead I am celebrating the moments I can spend with her. I've mentioned before my good news, also, that I have given up my six figure corporate day job to become a full time artist. Today is the last Friday in the corporate world for me. My boss asked if I am feeling a huge load of stress disappear, but to my surprise, the answer is no. All I feel is excitement, happiness, and the urge to grin just a little too much.

Sometimes life is so busy and noisy, I forget there is another way of seeing. This is the beginning of a new chapter in my life, and am so thankful for the family and friends who have joined me on this journey.

Textured Bluebonnet oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Texas Pride II" ©2012 Niki Gulley
20" x 30" textured oil painting on canvas

I painted these Texas bluebonnets and with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives to achieve depth and texture. The resulting image comes to life and is loaded with color and energy. In this wildflower series, I've painted the scene around the edges of the canvas on 1 and 1/2" deep stretcher bars so that the painting can be hung without a frame for a unique sculptural effect.

If you are interested in this original painting or in Texas Pride II as a canvas print, please e-mail Niki Gulley for more information.
