Been There... Completed Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Been There

 Size:30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

It is finished... I can say I have been there officially.  The composition of this painting literally grew from the story that I felt in my body of the daily movement of the world and the sun and moon.  Inside that is the movement of each of us... routinely doing the same thing over and over again.  You have been there I am sure!

This contemporary horse painting uniquely captures that moment that you realize it is time to do new things and bring new moments into your lives.

I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my labor,
and this was the reward for all my toil.
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:10-11

Progress on Been There, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Progress Been There
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

 Size:30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

The patterns have begun to establish themselves on the surface. The strength in the horses neck is evident by the color choice. I am an artist that goes after 'contemporary horse paintings' with brilliant colors.

I had hoped to finish to post but taking this composition slowly as it develops and not rushing the energy. I want the painting to evolve naturally.  You can see the rough music through the layers of oil paints as I progress into the next layers of paint. Still caught up in the 'been there' as I think more of the sun and moon and the daily journey and how our lives are totally situated around this natural happening of day into night repeated to what seems infinite or until the sun bursts and flares out leaving the earth cold and dead.

What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,

    ever returning on its course.
Ecclesiastes 1:3-6

Been There, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Been There    ©Laurie Pace 2014

Progress Painting Been There

 Size: 30 x 40  Oil on Canvas.

I am constantly looking for neat things to mount as the foundation of my contemporary horse paintings. I came across a CW book of older music and chose the Clint Black song "Been There".   I shredded it and glazed it onto the canvas.

"did you ever wake up in the middle of the night"
"did you ever wake up in the middle of the day"
"did you ever wake up in the middle of a dream"

Those were the lines that struck me as I worked... and as you can see there are spheres in the painting... When you think of how "rote" our days have become... Work, Drink, Eat and Sleep... and do it again the next day. Both Parents working, children in day care.... everyone forgetting how to live... how to be alive.  We have all BEEN THERE.

So the painting has a strong horse prancing with the sun and moon revolving... like they have 'been there' forever each day.
Watch for the finished painting tomorrow.

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130 NIV

The Beta, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

The Beta
A Contemporary Horse Painting
©+Laurie Pace       Graphics One Design 2014

Size: 20 x 30  Oil on Canvas. Sold

Such discovery fun.  Creative play. Painting full of joy.  I could make hash tags on all of these:  #discoveryfun, #creativeplay, #paintingwithjoy,

The Beta is power and strength. The Beta has many things woven across it surface and joy literally bounces from side to side. Yes, I have said this often this week, A road traveled but once.... but I did do another one similar that was larger.... two in fact and they all turned out with different personalities.  Beta I believe sold from my Jackson Hole Gallery, The Rare Gallery.  Abstract Horse Painting FUN!

Horse 53 Summer Sun Waterhole a Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Horse 53 Summer Sun Waterhole by Laurie Pace

 Size:8 x 10  Oil on Canvas.

We finally hit the 100 degrees last week and there is no escape. Then we had rain and 65 degrees.  This week it is back up in the high 90's again.  This is what prompted this painting...the summer heat. There is only vivid bright shades of blue sky, red eyelids when you close your eyes to the brilliant yellow sun... and a tiny bit of green grass in the shade. Couldn't have captured it any better in this contemporary horse painting.

And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
Ecclesiastes 3:16

This is one of my top ten favorites as well. It is at Davis and Co Gallery in Houston.
http://www.dandcgallery.com

Color and design are the strong points in this painting. It is not for the meek of heart.  I feel more men are drawn to it because of the strength, but many women like the mystery of the work. There is a gentle presence with the stance of the horses calm in the movement surrounding them.

Often when our lives are in turmoil we begin to wonder what to do to calm things down.  We loose energy wrestling with what we could have done differently and slowly we begin playing that blame game.

In actuality there is a gentle presence with us all the time... God is there through it all. If we can slow the blame game down and open our heart and mind to just Him, we can find a peace in our quiet contemplation. When we are in a peaceful place it is easier to 'hear' an answer to our turmoil. This gentle spirit of the Father guides and directs us when we are open to allowing Him into our lives.

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit."  Galatians 5:25

Didn't recognize the flowers? Rotate the canvas clockwise one turn of the square and it begins to fall in place. If you have time click through to the available paintings to see the close ups on this one as they are incredible. With it being a painting built on a painting the layers lend to a depth not often seen in painted artwork.  The little centered part of the green on the horses face is central to the contrast of the red throughout the painting. The blue does the same with the orange. I truly loved changing and evolving with this painting.

Trusting in God all the time as you evolved is not easy. We see our friends or family in stressful situations and we wish we could change them. We often find ourselves wanting to push a 'restart' button when we blow our schedule or even our diet. That is when we have to rise above the earthly situation and set our eyes on God. We need to remind ourselves that God is in charge. How well I know His restarts in our lives are often life changing and not always what we wish for. Stay with prayer and stay with God. We cannot determine an outcome in our own life or the lives of our family members and friends. Accepting the fact that we cannot control things, makes it easier to take a deep breath and let it out...letting go of all anxiety and control.

"Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances."

Horse 47 Facing the Light Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

Horse 47 Facing the Light
 Size: 12 x 12  Oil on Canvas.
Contemporary Horse Painting

Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

As I painted Facing the Light... I decided to keep this painting uncomplicated. It has thick layers of oil and movement with texture. It does not have a complicated layout... it is simply woven together.
The joy was in the simplicity.

We often search for something or someone to make us happy. Same with artists painting on a surface... constantly looking for that perfect painting. Does perfection come from something outside of ourselves? This is when we should turn inward and look for the discontentment and what is behind the discontentment.  Something is lacking inside of us.  The circumstances in life do not define us.  As an artist they do not define our art unless we are using those circumstances to communicate our feelings and express it directly onto the canvas.

Joy is inside of each of us. It may be buried deep and still waiting to burst forth. Why is it, as an artist or a person, we do not give ourselves permission to be joyful? Why does everything have to be the hard long painful way?  The joy inside of us was planted by the Spirit and is woven into each of us. We carry joy 24 hours a day. We need to learn how to experience it again, be it in our art or our lives.

No more waiting today for something 'good' to happen... it is already happening.  Your Joy is there... let go and get Joyful.

"I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete."  John 15:11

Horse 45 Northern Exposure Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

Northern Exposure
Size: 8 x 10 inches     Oil on Canvas.

Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

Color and contrast are the backbone of this fast moving pair or horses... to me they looked like they were flying across snow with a brilliant morning sun. Thoughts went to Alaska for some reason, hence the name Northern Exposure. Make sure you visit my available paintings and look at the close ups on this baby. The paint is really piled high in layers.

Sometimes life is that way too! The tree we planted a few weeks ago has shed most of it's leaves. The arborist says watch and maybe new ones will sprout but I am dubious on this one. This tree looks pretty done.

I imagine God spend time watching to see if we 'sprout' new leaves after our trials and temptations, or if we basically give up.

However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:   “‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.  What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord.
Or where will my resting place be?  Has not my hand made all these things?’ Acts 7:48-50

The Painted Ponies Gathering 2 The Passing of Spring by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

The Painted Ponies Gathering 2 The Passing of Spring
32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

If you look at the last posting and this one you can see how beautifully the colors pulled out to create the atmosphere foundation in this new Painted Ponies Painting.  Why the Passing of Spring?  We just had Easter and a week of on and off storms and it feels like the storms are passing leaving blue skies and sunshine.  Spring in Texas means STORMY weather.

Here is a close up of this painting and it is available. You can see more close ups on the site hyperlinked above.

This reminds me of a painting I did about three years ago  with the arrival of fall. In this painting soft strong colors creating the 'atmosphere' recalling the haze of soft falling rain and drizzle.

Life is a constant change and it includes storms. Trusting that God can secure us through the worst, we watch for the soft rain and the clearing skies to show His peace with us and with the world.

"I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth." Genesis 9:13
