Jimmy Longacre_subjective impressionist landscape paintings_CAPITAL MORNING

This is around 8:30 a.m. on Congress Avenue, in Austin, Texas.  I've wanted to paint this scene with this particular lighting effect for quite awhile.  The illumination of the shadows on the capital building makes a wonderful study in values and colors. The shadows on the facade of the building are quite high in value, catching a tremendous amount of bounced light from the angle of the morning sun.  The other thing that I had to wrestle with was to keep the drawing simple enough that I didn't just get lost in the complexity of the architecture.
