Poppy Ballet is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and is a study for a 72-inch-wide triptych commission that I will begin painting soon. It has been a while since I've painted a field of poppies in this abstracted, loose format, so I have to build up my courage to the big paintings to come! Even after years of painting, sometimes I freeze in front of the blank canvas, afraid of starting a new painting. I am usually able to shake it off by pretending that what I am painting is just a practice piece, nothing that has to be judged or hung in a gallery, but something that is simply for the enjoyment of placing wet, vibrant color on a blank surface. The weekend is ahead, with nothing but painting, friends, a much anticipated pug meet-up, and a chance to watch some movies in front of the fireplace with the hubby on the agenda. I hope wherever you are, you have something to look forward to, and some cute little critter friend nearby to keep you smiling.
