Along the field path in the middle five acres of my parent's organic farm in East Texas is an area redolent with the bitter scent of wild sage and the prickley vines of dewberry bushes. The cattle that used to graze this field have been moved to another pasture this summer, so the flowers have plunged up from the earth to celebrate. The orange butterfly weed is everywhere, and even though it is not the Indian paintbrush I was hoping for, I love the warm colors that lay so well on the cool greens.
