Lone Star Sunflowers and Purple Hydrangeas by Nancy Medina

Lone Star Sunflowers is a work based on photographs taken last summer on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas. I reworked this painting from July 2009 this week and I'm much happier with the warmer yellows.

I was inspired to paint Lone Star when I spotted this large clay pot with a large Texas star on the side. It was originally full of pansies, but the stately old pot seemed to call out for some additional occupants. What says Texas summer better than giant yellow sunflowers?
